WHAT IS PROFESSIONAL LEVEL STUDY?

Professional singers always strive to be better than their last performance. They regularly study with a team of specialists who help them reach a peak performance level.  The vocal team includes a technical teacher who focuses the student on achieving optimal sound production (my job) and work with a vocal coach for interpretational choices and style.  I maintain relationships with excellent vocal coaches and regularly refer my advanced students to them when they are ready. You get THE BONUS--- enjoying singing more as you develop more control. After all, it's called playing an instrument (your voice in this case) for a reason!

PLEASE NOTE: Acceptance of new students is always dependent on an evaluation lesson. I do not work with children under the age of 13 unless they are already under professional management.

NEW STUDENT POLICIES:
The first lesson assesses your skill level. It allows you to discover whether or not I am a "good fit" for your study needs. My focus is on professional level training.

Generally I only accept beginners if the following skills are in place:

  • Basic Musicianship: able to read music at a basic level.
  • Ability to match pitch: You must be able to coordinate hearing a pitch
with singing the pitch. You should be able to match pitch well within at least one
octave. Range and vocal freedom will improve with study.
  • Rhythm: You must have the ability to hold a steady beat. Use of a metronome
    will help you with this.

If you are unsure of any of the above, the web site www.earpower.com may help you gain these basic skills. The Sight Singing Trainer offers a free trial of basic skills you should possess to qualify for advanced study with me.
