The Song Salon launched April 24, 2005.
The goal: to offer congenial venues where music lovers make new friends
while experiencing art song in the way it was intended to be heard!
Our first event took place in a beautiful,
restored 19th century townhouse in downtown Manhattan.

We were graciously hosted by
Barrett Cobb and Harry Saltzman, wonderfully entertained by baritone Thomas
Meglioranza and pianist Pei- Yao Wang with an all German Lieder program.
The event generated an energy and
rapport around a bountiful buffet table. The conversation flowed as easily
as the wine. The biggest surprise
of the afternoon was not the SRO house,
but the offer from a guest, Dr. Heidi Rotterdam, to host the next
SongSalon!

As usual, a lively atmosphere swirled
around a plentiful tapas table. One guest even admitted it was the first
time he had been truly moved by art song recital! He explained he felt the intimacy of the space had helped him
personally feel Ms. Tonna’s emotional involvement.

On
September 18, 2005, we presented The South American Way in an upper
east side loft.
The artists were mezzo-soprano Anna Tonna and world reknowned pianist and
conductor, Pablo Zinger. This team has a long-standing
musical relationship, having worked together for many years in concert and
zarzuela.
Maestro Zinger shared the story of the texts he had authored for the
Piazzola tango selections at the composer’s request, bringing an
entertaining and scholarly view to the musical fabric.
